I recently went to a roller derby here in Nashville expecting something like Whip It but it was pretty chill and to the point. There was no bloody noses or shoving or mean spirited girls trying to beat others up, it was a game and they were there to play!
Actually shooting this was MUCH harder than I thought, the lighting was hard to work with and even if I had a flash I'd probably not use it for fear of distracting these girls. Also they were moving very fast and it was definitely a challenge for me in a sense that I don't shoot sports that often.
Though there were a lot of falls and some shoving and I'm sure there are more violent games but this one was pretty straight forward and to the point.
Nashville won.
The rules are pretty vague ( I didn't get a program) but from what I gathered the girl with the star on her helmet is a "Jammer" ? and she tries to get around the court as many times as possible. Her teamates help her and her opponents try and block her.
I was entertained non the less!
