I was in an arcade last night shooting photos of toy guns for a story. I just happened to snap this photo and I almost deleted it because it made me uncomfortable. It made me uncomfortable because it implies racism, and I didn't want people to think I was racist. But the more I looked at it the more beautiful it was, he's just a boy with a toy gun. But there is also this aftertaste that I can't quite pin down, and that is why I love this photo.
I do like it Lalo. It's not necessarily a subject matter thing, but I just like how candid the shot is with this guy's look - it's just like I'm looking right at him and there's no camera involved. I also just think it's really interesting aesthetically how the wall almost splits the picture in two - like there's this line right down the middle.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Laura! I love how this picture could tell so many different stories and we can kinda decide where to take that. You have so much taste in your pictures. That's why I love them!
