What We're Up To

SO Andrew and I have been hiding out as much as possible this winter because I really hate cold weather, and Andrew really hates going out. However when the spring arrives and we "wake up" we tend to get excited about gardening again.

The soil:

We had to fix the soil, it was high alkaline, we know this through experimentations with vinegar and baking soda. Messy experiment but sufficient for our needs and quite simple really! Andrew had taken a soil class last semester and knew how to fix it properly, so we bought gypsum (to break up the hard clay) and sulfur for the acid. Today we planted onions, lettuce, spinach, parsnip (which smell funny but AJ wanted it) and fennel. I also planted a ton of flower bulbs and wild flower seeds in front and mint seeds in the back. We're trying lots of new things too, like jerusalem artichoke which looks like a big sunflower plant but has yummy potatoey bulbs in the fall.

We are excited for the summer! We didn't have much of a garden last year.

These next few pictures are of Andrew shaving with a razor for the first time. He hasn't wanted to use his electric shaver because it pulls the hair instead of clip it when it's longer. So he tried this method, I like it better because he smells good and is softer, though it's more time consuming.

And that's it! We're pretty boring, although we are going to AZ this weekend so I can shoot a couple of weddings in Kingman and Laughlin!
