turning down business

When I was in Kingman last I found a fabulous dress at a weird second hand store, it was from an expensive place called Torrid that I sometimes shop. Of course expensive means 80.00 jeans or a 20.00 shirt, but anyway this dress probably sold for around 50-60 dollars and was brand new when I got it at the local thrift store for a buck. The only problem was it was too big so I vowed to get it altered, since I have had the whole week off from work I decided to get that done today. I first looked around for local businesses that would need the work, I tried a woman down the street who works out of her home but got the wrong number. Anyway I decided on a little shop called "European tailors" It's individually owned and when I stopped by, the shop next to theirs (a pest business) was packing up and closing for good so I thought I was doing something great for this small business! When I walked in I told the lady I needed some alterations of a couple of inches on the sides and in the arms, and I had all the time in the world for it to get done, she flat out told me it was going to be too much work and very time consuming and at least 45.00 to do. It was her tone that struck me the most offensive, she just didn't want to do it?! I was kind of hurt when I left, now I know that sounds funny but I really was trying to help her! So I started thinking of other tailors around town and thought of one in the mall. It is called "2 tiny tailors" even though I couldn't find it right away and got side tracked by bath and body's semi annual sale but I got there. She was DARLING! This cute Asian woman comes out with a big smile, her hair piled on top of her head and a pin cushion around her wrist with multi-colored pins in all directions. I told her what I wanted and she happily obliged and quoted me 20.00 dollars for the work, and said it would be easy. SO THERE! and lucky for me she owned the place too so I was still helping a small business, it will be done by Wednesday.

by the way Summer got photo shop I'm pretty much excited I have already begun messing around with stuff. It's amazing what you can do with that program! PS this blog is being written at 1 am so if it doesn't make sense that's why!

OK...

  1. i hate when people are rude like that... i always feel like i want to cry! but at least you found someone who will do it for you and not be rude about it. foreign seamstresses are always the best anyway... the 2 i've had are always nice, even if i have problems with something (my first one, this asian lady) took 3 tries to finish my stuff. but on the 3rd try she just sat down and did it right there because she was so sorry she'd taken so long to finish.

and you must post a pic of your fabulous dress when it's done (if you han't already)
