Word of the Day: Tired High
A state of altered perception brought on by a lack of sleep.
EXP: When he started to hallucinate he wasn't sure if it was the weed or if he was just tired high
Quote of the Day:
Laura: He got it in Russia on his mission, I'm sure its wolf the fur is really thick. (putting on a huge fur hat)
Ann: What does the tag say?
Laura: Omigosh....it's squirrel! *realizing that the hat is sewn purely out of squirrel tails and tries to quell vomit.*

OK so I just finished the best book in the world. Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver. I had bought this book for a friend but he had it already so I just kept it and gave it a go. First of all let me just say it changed my effing life. I hate feeling ignorant about issues that I am starting to become passionate about like the well being of the planet for example. I have had a big recycling box that I have carted around from house to house for a couple of years, I am pretty energy conscious when heating the home or driving from hither to thither. This author shed a whole new light on my consumption habits and I am quite impressed not only with her will but also her humor. The book starts out when the family moves from Tucson AZ to the Appalachia country to eat locally for 1 year. It is really hard at first because they had no food storage and it was the end of winter, but they get over it and by the next few chapters you are learning about how sexy asparagus is when it grows "if your into that kind of thing" There are lots of extra essay's by her husband and daughter who co-wrote the book, some of my favorite chapters included mushroom hunting, Amish friends, Lilly's egg business, how to make your own cheese, and Turkey sex. Turkey sex sounds absolutely hilarious! She describes it as tactfully as she can but the image in my mind will stay forever as being totally clumsy. This family seems so humble and grateful for what they have and want to share their knowledge with others just like any passionate missionary. I have changed a lot of my eating habits I try not to eat meat (unless I'm invited to a meal or at the FCC, Ken's a great cook) I plan on making my own cheese I am purchasing the kit next week. I have bought a few packets of seed for my garden, spinach, corn, zucchini, lettuce, carnival peppers, red peppers, carrots and maybe one more I can't remember. This book was amazing and I am sending it too Lizzy in Wyoming where she and her husband Scott have a beautiful garden and practically live like this family. I have found a place that sells eggs from happy chickens and have noticed a lot of local produce stands around Provo, AF, and Lehi. One of my favorite signs for local food is "Local Fruit! apples, peaches, tomatoes, mangoes"....wait what? mangoes? seems kinda dodgy to me. I will try and eat more locally *to become a locavore* it helps the community and just tastes better in the long run, anyone knows that a vegetable from the garden is the best!! I really recomend this book! Im glad I got the chance to read it. Even though it took me forever! 3 jobs and a social life. That would be a cool name for a band huh?
Also Ken is hosting "Bowls for Humanity" on march 6th at the Covey Arts on Center st. I think it starts at 6pm.. they are pottery bowls made by students and professionals and if you buy a bowl you get complimentary soup. The proceeds go to the Food and Care Coalition

Word of the Day:
lol theory
The theory that the Internet phrase lol, meaning "laugh out loud", can be placed at any part in any sentence and make said sentence lose all credibility and seriousness.
ex 1 Doc: We need to operate on your colon lol, you have cancer.
ex 2 Jesus: Take this all of you and eat it, it is my body, lol.
ex 3 Me: Will you marry me? Lol.
Quote of the Day:
Laura: ( fishing for compliments) hey! tell me something I do that is funny.
Andrew: You really don't like to hear the truth.
Laura: I meant something cute.... that I do... seriously whats wrong with you?

So I have become increasingly interested in beauty, now I'm not talking physical beauty but the hidden I'm walking down the street and see a leaf in a puddle of water kind of beauty. I can't quite explain the swell I feel when I look up at the sky at night and see a stark tree with a big blue backdrop of a starless sky. I wish I were a good enough painter to be able to pull that off! I was walking down center street in Provo last night sneaking peaks into windows and admiring the way a store looks when there is no one inside, almost expecting things to all of a sudden start moving on their own. There were a few antique stores I gazed into, old forgotten objects some might see as junk but I see as a timeline. I love the way things look when they are outdated rusty and dusty! A lot of stores post random art in the windows I am not really into abstract art as much as I just love an old fashioned painting of a outdoor scene or beautiful woman. Provo has a wonderful art scene that I am slowly getting more in tune with. Its hard because I never just take the time and figure out where stuff is and when!
I should be moving in a couple of weeks, I am moving in with the Carr family, 250 a month for room and board can't beat that ! I will have my own room too! Also the ability to have a small garden. I'll be traveling a lot this summer I plan on a week at sea, a week in PA and NY with Kiely and possibly going to see Lizzy in Wyoming (I need to talk to you liz! oh and I finished the book and will be sending it to you promptly along with new music)
SOOOOO!~ funniest thing, on Friday the 13 my friend Ben and his wife Brannae put together a really yummy spaghetti dinner and I had the understanding that it was a no utensil type deal but it was a NO HANDS DINNER! this beautiful presentation and we bent over our plates and ate salad with a really acidic dressing it burned my face, green jello which was so fun to slurp up, and gourmet spaghetti! we ate with our faces! WITH OUR FACES! we are doing it again next month because there is another Friday the 13th, I'm stoked! My next book review will be in the next blog

Word of the Day: Coin Wanking
Currently listening to In Your Eyes ~ Peter Gabriel
Working with adults with disabilities you get to know some of the sweetest, kind, good-hearted, most annoying people you will ever come across. You know a person has disabilities usually by the way they look, they will have strangely shaped bodies or talk funny. Most people are uncomfortable with these guys because they have no personal bubble most of the time and will get too close. Some drool and have snotty faces some can't get to the bathroom on time, others throw fits in public and embarrass their staff I just find these moments entertaining usually, unless I'm the staff. I love these people I know it's not a glorious job to have but I feel like I have the chance to meet some of God's strongest souls. We lost one of these specials last night, her name was Tiffany she was about 4'8 and wore a pink helmet with butterfly puffy stickers on the front every day. Her spine was the shape of an S and she looked like a 8 year old with the face of an older woman. Every time I saw her she would wave me down "hey Lori! Look!" and she would cock her hip to the side and show off whatever she was wearing. She had a cute laugh and would occasionally grab my hand and squeeze as hard as she could which was pretty hard! I saw her minutes before she had a seizure and got hauled away to the hospital where she developed a lung infection and went into a coma and eventually passed away last night. We all took it pretty hard but for me death should be a celebration, I never wear black to a funeral I always wear the brightest clothes. They go so quickly sometimes it is strange how we take advantage of daily life without pain. I will miss her but I am happy she is with her Heavenly Father! Yay for Tiff.... she graduated.
The act of jangling change held in a suit trouser pocket, usually performed by male office workers whilst stood chatting to colleagues.

Word of the Day or acronym in this case: DLS
Quote of The Day:
Mike: Ya I made out with her! She's totally in my top five even though she had a really hairy lip and her breath smelled like moth balls, but she did this thing with her tongue...
Laura: *thinking* I could totally knock that girl out of his top five....gross.

So I have been thinking a lot lately about where exactly I want my life to be headed. I think as I get older I start to get impatient with things I just want them NOW! I see myself as a pretty patient person but today I realized I have my days where I am not so composed. For the past few weeks I have been acclimating to new changes and open doors some not so positive but I have a sense of impending change, which is obvious because we all change at some point. I have some good ideas but I don't want to release them until I have a true plan.
I just have to put it out there... I totally have a crush on Obama. There I said it. ok on with the blog
oooh I am planning on having a garden this summer I know that I have talked about it before but I'm way stoked. I keep recruiting random people to help out, there are a couple of places that I can do it, Summer's house, Brother Hadley's community garden, behind Andrew's house (I am pretty sure he is thinking of doing one for himself and thinks I will just help him I'm not sure.) or my own back yard but that will take forever because it's all crazy back there. I have a mild goal to sell at the farmers market this summer so hopefully I will do that at least once. OOOH and I make really good homemade bread I can try and sell and I want to start making homemade cheese. I just want to do these things for the novelty of it and gain a better sense of community not for money at all, so my things will be pretty cheap. Anyway this blog kind of stinks I am not really into writing today. I am so busy this whole week. I have been making everyday so jam packed that I am becoming quite exhausted, and short tempered. I have to work at borders tonight blah. at least I get to see some friends!! I love you all
